Developments in Venezuela
It’s breaking news ladies and gentlemen.Quite extraordinary what’s happened in Venezuela in the past few hours.
Donald Trump has announced the capture of Nicolas Maduro, the president of Venezuela, in a brilliant operation and to be honest it was a brilliant operation. This has been a long time in the planning.
There was heavy bombardment in various parts of Caracas, the capital, last night and now it’s apparently happened. Maduro and his wife have been captured and already flown out of the country, almost certainly to the United States, where I would think they will stand trial.
That is a brilliant operation and congratulations, because it wouldn’t have been easy to do. There are a lot of negatives about that and also a lot of people saying it’ll never happen and it’s gonna be more difficult, but he’s smarter than we think and sometimes he comes up and he does this and I go well so much for the negative side of it. You gotta give Donald Trump and his military plan a pat on the back here.
Wider Implications and Iran
The next place to go I hope, and I feel for the people of Iran. I’ve talked about it, there should be more media playing about this. People in Iran need to get rid of that terrible regime.
They’re weakened now and they’re a dangerous regime and they have been for years. They’ve exported terrorism around the world and they still are. Now is an opportunity and I hope and I think he’s well aware of it and something could happen there very imminently.
Obviously you’ve got Israel very involved in that one and of course America. What will happen there, well watch this space.
Oil Prices and Global Impact
Whether you agree with it or not, it is the world’s largest producer of oil, so look oil prices could drop quite dramatically. They’re already on the way down. Isn’t that good news for all of us.
Trump’s Statement and Next Steps
He made the claim on his Truth Social posting. He says the United States of America has successfully carried out a large scale strike against Venezuela and its leader President Nicolas Maduro, along with his wife captured and flown out of the country.
This operation was done in conjunction with US law enforcement. Details to follow. There will be a news conference today at 11:00 am. I assume he’s still in Mar-a-Lago in Florida, so that’s four PM here in the UK, and I shall definitely be listening to that and I’m sure you will too.
To my American friends, I think it’s a great thing.
Who Takes Over in Venezuela?
Who will take over? Well it’ll probably be the opposition leader. Remember that lovely lady who has been in opposition for a number of time and got the Nobel Peace Prize. She’s spoken to Trump many times and I’m sure they’ve been in touch today as well.
Maria Corina McCartney Parriska, she was born in 1967 and an industrial engineer with a master’s degree in finance. McCartney actually they actually won the election, but of course Maduro just denied it and of course took the election illegally. So he was never ever liked by the people. They had enough of him.
It could have been the richest country in the world. I mean it’s got everything and it was under the previous government. So now he just blew it lining his own pockets. I mean how appalling is that.
Other Countries to Watch
Something I’ve just got to mention at the end of this: people have forgotten about Erdogan in Turkey. I know people are gonna say that’s not right, he won that election illegally because the opposition in Turkey, there are a lot of people in Turkey who are very unhappy with him.
You gotta be very careful what you say and Turkey is a very powerful country and a very important part of NATO, but that’s another country that people should keep an eye on, in Pete’s opinion anyway.
Closing Thoughts
Very exciting news about Venezuela. It’s ongoing so we can’t say too much and we just wish the people of Venezuela well. We hope it’s a smooth transition to whatever we’ll notice in the next few hours and we wish them well. Our thoughts and our hearts and our minds go out to them all.
It’s Saturday January 3rd, 2026.It’s very cold here. Last night it was snowing when I went to bed at 1:30, but no snow this morning, just cold and a very severe frost. It’s gonna continue to be cold here in the UK for the next few days.
Love you all, thanks a lot, take care, be good and look after yourself.
